no further additions to the present stock in circulation . Japanese yen both chopped and clean are also scarce now, 80 doubtless in time a large amount of British Dollars will be absorbed in China.

From the Bank's point of view it would be a convenience to have a Mint in the Colony open to coin British Dollars, provided that it be well managed, and on a sufficiently big scale to put through large amounts of silver without undue
delay. Otherwise theywould have to pass it, and continue to
they would
have their coinage done at Bombay, where of course the Straits
Banks would in most cases continue to send their silver. A
certain amount of Straits orders might, however, be counted
upon.
3. Except from the very indirect benefit that might possibly
accrde to local taxpayers from the profit earned by the
Mint, we do not see that the general public have any interest
in the matter either one way or the other.
